 June 20, 2010 - Fathers Day

If you spend a lifetime with a great man will you grow up to become the same ? The answer is simply “you may”.  The choice is yours. But at least you have the opportunity if you are paying attention. Such was my case, as my father, by the testimony of tens of thousands of the world’s poor and downtrodden, was surely one of the great men of the past 100 years even if just by the sheer volume of good works done by him during his 50 years of sacrifice in Asia. Here is the first song I have ever written for my amazing father. Medical doctor & encourager of the poor and refugee.  As for how I turned out, scroll down and make your own decision!

Oh My Father

/ Lyrics copyright 2010 Robin Dale (羅賓漢)

When I was a boy – Running, laughing, head in the clouds

My father stood close by to keep my feet on solid ground

And Oh – How I looked up to him – Like any boy would

In the gentle rain, if I would slip and fall

“Well life can be like that” he would smile and say

“But love can ease the pain, sometimes my son, we all need a hand”

Oh My Father – Watched and smiled and helped me grow

Every day he lived for others – So that I would know

Oh My Father – Showed me what real love’s made of

“Give to others” he would say “And you will always have enough”

In the pouring  rain – When life was so unkind

Sometimes your friends are cruel – Sometimes their just blind

No matter what the cost – I could always hear my father say

“Take Heart Son Love Forgives”

Love considers all – Believes the best and wins

Don’t give in to the pain of self pity – To your anger don’t give in

Press on and gain the prize – Look through the eyes of love

Oh My Father – Wisdom is your native tongue

Teaching me in quiet strength – We must show love to everyone

Oh My Father – Speaking with your actions first

Teaching me in just one word – The meaning of each verse

(solo)

Love considers all – Believes the best and wins

Don’t give in to the pain of self pity – To your anger don’t give in

Press on and gain the prize – Look through the eyes of love

Oh My Father – Wisdom is your native tongue

Teaching me in quiet strength – We must show love to everyone

Oh My Father – Speaking with your actions first

Showing me in just one word – The meaning of each verse

“Hey Dad – Thanks - For Everything”
